DevStack is a shell script that will create (in a rather violent fashion) a working OpenStack installation in which you can experiment.

I current have a vagrant_devstack setup going which plops devstack on top of an ubuntu installation (irony!).

I suspect I'll get something more to my personal liking once I'm back to being savvy with all the pieces and parts.
