raised ESR/CRP

active infection, active cancer 
inflammatory conditions
giant cell arteritis (headache, visula change, jaw claudication)
drug induced eg statins

Mx
prednisolone 15-20mg od with global response within 1/52 and bloods normal by 4/52
reduce by 5mg every month till 5mg od, then by 1mg as to Sx
usually 18/12 before off steroids
