vertigo, hearing loss (SN), tinnitus with sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears and N&V
episodes last longer - minutes to hours (cf BPPV)
recurrent episodes
sensation of aural fullness
nystagmus and positive rombergs (stand with closed eyes - if wobble - ?loss of vestibular function or of proprioception)

middle aged adults
usually unilat - 15% bilat

Medical Mx
in acute phase - stay still, try cinnarizine (15-30 tds) or prochlorperazine (5-10 tds)
prophyllaxis - betahistine 16mg tds
lifestyle change and low salt intake with lots fluid and litttle caffeine and alcohol may help
surgical intervention if persistent - but mostly it burns out
