No legal definition of death in UK though guidelines exist
Death needs to be verified by doctor or other qualified personnel (eg nurse practitioner)
Only doctor can certify death 
in some circumstances doctor must report to coroner before completing cetificate

Old age is discouraged and only if over 80
Natural causes is not OK
organ failure is OK if cause of failure also given
cardiac arrest is mode of dying and can be given as 1a if qualified in 1b
avoid abbreviations (except HIV / AIDS)

Family takes certificate to local registrar to register death
Local registrar can report to coroner and then issue:-
certificate of registration of death (for social services)
certificate for burial or cremation
if requested copies opf death register (bank and insurance company wants them)
if taking body out of england - needs Out of England order
